🤎 To be held weekends in November

Nov. 8th – 30th, 2024

in historic downtown Newport, RI 🤎

“We thoroughly enjoyed ThamesGiving 2024. We were happy to walk all over Newport in search of all the copper pumpkins. We loved that it was on the weekends this year instead of Thursday nights and we were blessed with sunny days and fine weather for the most part. We loved all the special events including the Artisan Market at Provence sur Mer, and the flash mob at Bowen’s Wharf. We enjoyed meeting all the shop owners and staff and we all enjoyed laughing about how silly it was that grownups were out on a scavenger hunt for copper pumpkins! We really enjoyed stopping off for cocktails at several points along the way as pumpkin hunting is hard work!”

“Really the magic of this event is the fact that the town of Newport gives back to the community, gets people out there interacting with the local businesses, and the best part is that there are some many cool prizes to win! We love Newport and are always happy to be involved with all the fun events like this!”  M. B.

g”We found out about Thamesgiving when we saw Michele talk about it on The Rhode Show. It was a gorgeous fall day and I suggested we head to Newport for lunch and try to find a few of the copper pumpkins. That first afternoon, I believe we found 12 or so and had an absolute blast exploring and talking to people along the way! We were hooked!  Over the next couple weeks, on nice days, we’d head to Newport and explore a different area. I have limited mobility issues and  can only walk in short spurts, but the Thamesgiving hunt gave us a perfect excuse to get out to enjoy some sunshine, exercise and conversations. And, we were just blown away with the discoveries we made along the way!  Beautiful views, fabulous shops, cozy restaurants, lovely people, hidden gems – so many wonderful places we’d never discovered before despite living just a few miles away! ThamesGiving is truly a win, win for everyone – for the Givers,  the Scavenger Hunters & the city of Newport.”

“I had so much fun in the Scavenger Hunt and am very happy to hear that I was a winner. I am super excited to see the prizes, and would like to thank you very much for organizing such a fun Thanksgiving activity! “~ R. T.

Celebrating
the Season of

Giving

Dozens of pop-up flash mob dancers move and groove at our Copper Pumpkin Extravaganza Bowen’s Wharf on Sunday, November 17th.

Audrey McLelland and Michele Gallagher talk all about ThamesGiving and community building on WPRI-12’s The Rhode Show on November 19th.

“Senior Matters” Conversation with Helen Hames on WADK radio, November 20th.

ThamesGiving in Newport believes in the power of community and giving back. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can come together to celebrate and have fun. Join our community today and experience the magic of the Thames St. community for yourself!

We have many surprises in store for you while we also work to support our community in meaningful ways during this season of giving.

Newport’s more than 80 participating shops, hotels, restaurants, services and public spaces are delighted to share this magical City-by-the-Sea with our visiting guests and local residents during this holiday season.

Thames Street (along with Marlborough Street) was one of Newport’s original two streets officially laid out in Newport in 1654 and provided access to the city’s many wharves.

The street takes its name from the River Thames in London, England, an area from which many of the early colonists migrated. It is more than 1.5 miles long and today is the heart of Newport‘s shopping and dining district for residents and visitors alike.

This year, due to popular demand, we expanded our Thames Street business district to include the surrounding shopping streets and wharves up Historic Hill to Bellevue Avenue. Look for brightly-colored posters and signage which identify ThamesGiving participating merchants (aka “ThamesGivers”).
